How long does the education take?
For nurses with ADN or Diploma preparation who want to become faculty members, the first step is a Bachelor's in nursing. RN to BS programs are generally 12-18 months in length for those who are full time students. Most RN programs have prerequisite general education courses that must be completed before enrolling in the nursing program.

Master's degree programs generally speaking are 2 years in length which include advanced clinical skills. Many include preparation for teaching.

Doctoral education is generally 3 years of study post completion of the Master's degree.

Certificate programs are offered at several schools in Virginia for nurses who have Master's degrees and are interested in learning more about teaching.
